I provide individual therapy for adults 18+ living in California and Colorado. Currently, all sessions are via telehealth [video]. Typically, I see clients on a weekly basis.
I primarily see autistic adults struggling with sadness, worry, life transitions, identity, emerging adulthood, burnout, stress, and relationship problems.
My therapy is neurodivergent-affirming, trans-affirming, sex-positive, anti-ableist, anti-racist, and culturally sensitive.
Most of us don't like surprises, and going to therapy for the first time can feel like a scary and overwhelming process. To make it easier. Let me tell you all about the process.
After reading through my website, if you feel comfortable taking the next steps, head on over to the Contact page and fill out the form to request an appointment. You can also use that space to ask specific questions or request a free consultation phone call. As many autistics aren't fans of phone calls, I don't require a phone call in order to start therapy, though I will send you an email with some quick questions to make sure we're a good fit.
If you like the idea of doing therapy with me, and our schedules match, I will go ahead and reserve an appointment for you. You will gain access to the Client Portal, a website where you'll find paperwork, our video appointment links, and sometimes helpful worksheets and reading material. You will have until the day before the first appointment to complete the intake paperwork (things like "what are your goals for therapy," medical history, etc.) It can take some time to finish, so it's broken up into chunks; you can always take a break and come back to it.
Once the paperwork is all done, we're all set. Your teletherapy link will become active a few minutes before your session. There is a private virtual lobby, so you can log in, check your camera and connection, and get comfy before entering the session. Next, I will log in and welcome you to your first session. I will review some policies and answer questions. If you have lots to say, I will listen and offer gentle direction as we get to know each other. But if you aren't sure what to say or get nervous in these situations (most of us do), I will be happy to guide you along through the first session, asking questions and providing some direction. Sessions usually last for about 50 minutes. At the end I will ask about your experience and if you would like to schedule another session. If you're not sure, no worries. Take a couple of days to think about it. If you decide to continue, I will reserve a session at the same time for you every week as we work through therapy.
After the first session, therapy becomes more specialized and varies person-to-person, depending on your preferences, life situation, and goals for therapy. So, I welcome you to ask questions throughout the process.
